Polish Poppy Seed Roll (Makowiec)

Prepare Poppy Seeds: Boil poppy seeds in water for 5 minutes. Drain and cool for 20 minutes, then grind finely.
Mix and Cook: Combine ground poppy seeds, dried fruit, candied peel, nuts, honey, sugar, and butter in a pot. Cook over low heat, stirring until the butter melts and mixture is well combined, about 5 minutes.
Cool and Store: Cool filling and use immediately or freeze for later.

Ingredients

For the Dough
2 cups All-purpose flour
1/2 cup Warm milk
2 Egg yolks
2 tbsp Butter
1/4 cup White granulated sugar
1 packet (7g) Dry yeast (or 40g fresh yeast)
Pinch of salt
For the Poppy Seed Filling
2 1/2 cups Poppy seed filling (look up for instructions)
3 Egg whites (beaten to soft peaks with a mixer)
1/4 cup Chopped walnuts
For the glaze
Powdered sugar
Water (or lemon juice)
