Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

8 slices rye bread

1 large onion, sliced thinly

8 slices Swiss cheese

Butter (for toasting bread)

Salt and pepper (to taste)

For the Secret Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

To begin, create the Secret Sauce. In a tiny bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Mix well until smooth and thoroughly combined. Season according to taste and put aside.

Divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts and shape each portion into a patty that is a little larger than the bread slices’ size. Sprinkle both sides of every patty with salt and pepper.

At medium heat, cook the patties in a skillet for 4-5 minutes per side or until they reach your preferred degree of doneness. Afterward, take them out of the pan and keep them away.

In the same skillet add one knob of butter. Sauté the sliced onions in it until they are caramelized and golden brown which should take around 8 to 10 minutes. Once done take out from pan then keep aside.

Butter one side of each slice of bread. On four slices spread a good amount of Secret Sauce over unbuttered side.

Put one cooked beef patty onto the sauce on each slice of bread. Add a layer of caramelized onions and 2 pieces of Swiss cheese to it. Then, place another slice of buttered bread on top, with the buttered side facing outwards.

Cook the sandwiches in a skillet over medium heat until they turn golden brown on each side and the cheese has melted, about 3-4 minutes for every side.

Take Patty melts out of the pan once cooked and allow them to cool off a little bit before serving. Slice diagonally down through each one so you can have two halves and enjoy these yummy creations with secret sauce!
